Superbowl Bingo with Fried Pickles!

Step 1: Prepare the Faux-Fried Pickles!

Prep time: 10 minutes     Cook time: 20 minutes     Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

1/3 cup whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs
1/3 cup parmesan cheese (fresh or other)
24 pickle chips -try lots of different flavors, sweet pickles, bread and butter pickles and spicy ones as well as dill!
1/4 cup (about 2 large) egg whites or fat-free liquid egg substitute
Optional dip: ketchup, light Thousand Island dressing

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick spray.

In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with parmesan cheese.

Blot pickle chips dry, and place them in a medium-small bowl. Top with egg whites/substitute, and flip to coat.

One at a time, shake pickles to remove excess egg, and coat with seasoned crumbs.
Place pickles on the baking sheet, and top with any remaining seasoned crumbs. Bake for 10 minutes.

Flip pickles. Bake until crispy, about 10 more minutes.

Have fun with it!

This is a great messy family activity for Superbowl time! Everyone can help to prepare the pickles as a pre-game activity. Lots of different pickle flavors call for lots of choices to be made and funny conversations about what combination of flavors might taste good, or not so good. If a player does not care for the pickle chips, another snack can be substituted for Superbowl Bingo. The fun of creating and cooking together will not be diminished by adding an alternative snack!

Step 2: Play Superbowl Bingo with your Snack!

How to Play

  1. Give every family member a copy of the same BINGO card and a pile of pennies. The entire family represents one team working together to get BINGO or BLACKOUT.
  2. When a family member finds an item on the BINGO card, everyone eats a snack. Take turns who gets to call out the items they find on TV. In order to make sure younger players get to contribute – let the youngest or least knowledgeable players call out items from the BINGO cards first, or every other turn!
  3. When your family wins a BINGO or a BLACKOUT (as a team), celebrate and clear off your boards and start again! You can either use the same BINGO card, or pass out a new one to mix it up!

Helpful Tip: Keep it Inclusive!

The idea behind this activity is to help the whole family to be able to engage in the game together. Everyone can help to make the pickle chips before the game, everyone can enjoy finding the BINGO matches, and everyone can learn (or teach) more about the game as well!

By letting everyone have the same BINGO card, everyone helps the team to win! Enjoy inclusive football, where everyone is the winner!
